GivEnergy Ltd Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) for UK customers

‘This advice is prepared in response that GivEnergy Ltd (Company number 11571089) has entered into admistration. GivEnergy LTD is part of GivEnergy Group Ltd (Company number 14404895) which contains other subsidiary companies which are currently trading. It is currently unknown how the other GivEnergy Group companies will continue to operate and therefore advise may change depending on new information about these parts of the Group.

I bought a battery from GivEnergy – will it still work?
Your battery should continue to work as normal. GivEnergy’s online systems are operated by a different company within the GivEnergy group and are not currently expected to be affected by the administration proceedings of GivEnergy Ltd.

Is my battery safe?
The built in local management capabilities of your system will continue to monitor battery cells and shut down if there is an issue.

Do not under any circumstances try to remove the battery from its mounting or try to tamper with or self diagnose physical issues with the battery or inverter in any way. There is a risk of serious injury or death from the internal components of any high voltage system.

Can I continue to control my GivEnergy battery?
As GivEnergy’s app and portal are managed by GivEnergy Software Ltd (which is not in administration), there is no impact currently expected to your app and portal experience and you can monitor and control your device as normal. GivEnergy have separately stated that they are consulting on charging a fee for remote app access however this consultation is not linked to the GivEnergy Ltd situation and more details here will be announced soon. The ESA and UK Government are monitoring developments on this matter.

What if my battery develops a fault?
Your battery has built-in systems that are designed to ensure the battery remains safe. These systems will continue to operate despite GivEnergy’s administration process.

If your system develops a fault, you must not tamper with the battery in any way. If you have any concerns, you should speak with a qualified installer.

Should the battery look as though it may become unsafe i.e., be physically damaged, letting off smoke or steam, making a hissing sound etc. then you must evacuate the area immediately, even if the battery is located outside, and call for fire services.

Will other battery providers also stop trading?
We are not aware of any evidence that any other battery companies are planning to stop operating. The UK has a strong domestic battery market, driven by the multiple benefits that batteries can bring to consumers, especially when paired with solar PV. GivEnergy is the largest domestic battery manufacturer to stop trading to date.

What should I do if I need support for my battery?
GivEnergy have closed its support lines, so you should reach out to the company that you purchased your system from as your 1st option for support.

What will happen to my battery warranty?
GivEnergy warranties can only be enforced against GivEnergy itself and their closure likely means you will be unable to claim against those warranties in the future. However, should your GivEnergy battery be faulty, you may still have options to seek redress:

  • If you bought your battery from your energy company, an installer, or a wholesaler, then you should consult these in the first instance.
  • If you purchased your battery with a credit card, you may be able to claim a refund from your card provider through section 75 protections in the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

Should I replace my system?
This is an individual choice, the system should continue to work. For further information, refer to other FAQ’s above.
